I Have A Retro Career
Some how I have gotten stuck in the 80s. I didn't even really like the 80s the first time around - i was young, awkward, unsure of myself. Now I'm old, awkward, and unsure of myself - so perhaps it's fitting.
It started earlier this year, when somebody introduced me to a very nice, very competant lawyer named Jeff Cohen. Jeff wanted to represent me in my writing and producing, and I heavily considered it. It wasn't until later that I realized that Jeff was, in fact, Chunk from The Goonies. I eventually decided against signing up with him - as great as he was, I wasn't ready to sign away 5% of my paycheck to him, truffle shuffle or no.
Then I got a job writing for Alf. The loveable alien puppet is attempting a comeback, Fridays at 11 on TVLand, with, of all things, a talk show. So for a few weeks, I was pitching jokes that would eventually be "said" by somebody's fur-covered left hand. Many of them had to do with cats.
Currently I'm writing for the Golden Girls. Not the show, mind you, but special features for an upcoming DVD of the show. I am watching episodes of the Golden Girls and getting paid for it.
And last night? I beat the guy who played Ben Seaver on Growing Pains in poker. Won a hundred bucks out of the deal. It would have been worth a hell of a lot more in the 80s.

I've gotten a lot of feedback about some of the last few posts I've made about the election. For the record, the reason I was cranky the past few weeks is not solely becuase of the election - I had two losses in my family. But I'll admit it - the election has gotten me down.
To be honest, I appreciate people talking about this - as far-left-wing as I am, I recognize that the only way things are going to get done in this country is through some sort of compromise. And I also respect those out there who are Republican, or those who have strong religious beliefs. It's America - I don't believe what you do, but it's your right to.
But here are my counter-arguments. Bush is not a good Republican. Republicans are for fiscal responsibility, strong defense, and state's rights. Bush has built up record defecits, refused to follow the 9-11 comission's reccomendations to increase security, and has uniformly sent in federal agents to deal with state issues.
And if it's religion you follow, what's religious about signing the death warrents of hundreds of men in Texas? Or sending over a thousand military men and women to their deaths for a war that had no justification? Or even worse, the 100,000 innocent Iraqis who died in that war? What's moral about that?
I honestly want to understand why the majority of this country voted for Bush. Perhaps I'm not looking at it the right way. Help me out, people...

Hollywoodn't
I'm away with the family for a few days, but i wanted to remind you all. If you like talk shows starring pop icon aliens from the 80s, you may want to watch ALF's Hit Talk Show, tonight on TVLand. I wrote and produced on that show, but even then, don't blame me for anything you see.
Watch every week and you may get to see me try to do what barely passes for "acting" in what barely passes for "a comedy sketch."

I am back from Nevada from my weekend of volunteering for Kerry. I am a bit busy right now with a family emergency that has left me very sad, so I won't give you a full description until later.
Until then, please remember to vote, vote, vote. Unless you're Republican, then, take the day off and kick some homeless people or whatever it is you do in your spare time.
With a bleeding, and broken, heart,
