I was listening to the radio today and heard this charming story.
Marian Fontana lost her husband, a firefighter, in the World Trade Center collapse. Like many of the families of the victims of that tragedy, she felt Bush was exploiting those deaths for political gain. Nevertheless, against her own best judgement, she accepted an invitation to a White House event.
While at the event, somebody introduced her to President Bush, and explained to the commander-in-chief that she lost her huband on 9/11, which was also their wedding anniversary.
And our President says, and I quote, "Oh, that's terrible. You got the Double Whammy!"
The Double Whammy.

I live in Hollywood. I'm not bragging, it just happens to be where I live and work. And because I live here, I see more than my fair share of celebrities. Whether it be Weird Al at a concert or Vince Vaughn at a bowling alley, they're always around. Enough so that, honestly, I barely even notice. There's a flicker in my head while my brain decodes whethere I recognize them because they're friends, or because they were on a crappy 80s sitcom. Then I carry on with my day.
But today, as I was getting a green tea at Starbucks, I saw Toby Huss. Sure, nobody's ever heard of Toby Huss. I understand that. But to me, he's probably the biggest star in the world. He played Artie, The Strongest Man In The World on the fantastic and strange show The Adventures of Pete & Pete. He is also a voice on the best animated show on television, King Of The Hill. He played "The Wiz" on Seinfeld. He's damn funny.
He was very nice to me, too. I talked to a little bit, and he obviously ahd the same "do I know you?" trains running through his head as I called out his name. I explained I was just a fan, and I think it may have been the only time anybody ever described themselves as that. It made my day, and I think perhaps I made his too.
Then, I stalked him for three hours. Because I love him SO MUCH.
